How to style Sorority House furniture, with a twist

Phi Mu at the University of Alabama

Sorority house furniture is traditionally French provincial style in design with solid wood typically aged or white washed with beautiful upholstery.  Think of Victoria Graysons house in Revenge and you will get the look and design we’re speaking about. Who wouldn’t want to live there?  While lovely, we feel there is a breathe of fresh air that incorporates the traditional sorority house furniture look with a new, more contemporary feel. Its all about mixing the materials;

Brass and copper, which can be used on coffee tables and table bases,  paired with white marble is one of our fav combinations. We recommend using white marble as it is the most durable of all the marble colors in a hospitality space.

If marble is too hard a surface it can easily be mixed with European oaks which brings a cleaner feel to the provincial solid wood pieces and mix well together.

Velvet –  we love using deep velvet colors on upholstery items as it brings the glam to the space and makes it feel cozy and comfortable.

If you are not using velvet it can be incorporated into accent cushions or ottomans to bring highlight features to the design.

Ovo Stackable chair

For chapter hall chairs there are stackable versions available in many designs.  The Ovo chair has a metal base and upholstered shell, traditional Michael Thonet Bentwoods which can be produced with a stackable ring, or an aged oak cross back works well too.

So whether you find these new looks Chi Omega,  Alpha Kappa Alpha, Kappa Alpha Theta or Phi Mu there are so many options to furnish the public space of a sorority house by mixing the Old and of course the New.
